Hi im new here . I wanted some advice kn my housing exchange . I put in for a house exchange before chirstmas as i saw a perfect home for my needs as i have lumbar spinal stenosis . The lady who wants to swap with me loves my home and wants to move here as she looks after her nan near by . We put out applications in her housing have done most of the checks and are happy for me to move there but my council are not as i have a standard wet room upstairs with just one grabrail and non slip flooring . They saying its a fully adapted disabled shower room .so they won't let me move . I have nothing else in the house that been done .so i don't know what to do as it stressin me out . Its got no seat or pull cord . I just can't see that its a disabled shower i haven't had anything in writing yet and they supose to be getting back to me as they took pics of my bathroom but have heard nothing . I just want some advice on what to do ?

Are the council asking for any recompense with regards to the wetroom?

I can't imagine my local council would be happy with me, if I asked to swap, in my case, only three years after they installed the wetroom.

I have been living here for 5 years and they installed the wet room 4 years ago . The lady who wants to swap with me is not disabled but she is fine with it

What i meant was do the council not object to the expense they went to in installing your wet room, that it is now wasted, so to speak, as you are moving away?

I am only guessing, as I can't see what else they could object to.

They might want a non able bodied replacement tenant.

It still counts as a disability adaptation. These things are done to varying degrees it isn't one size fits all.

Hi @taj51 and a warm welcome to the community from me!

Shelter England may be helpful to contact as they are the housing experts so they may be able to provide some specific information and advice as this is quite a complex situation😊
