Sciatica and pip

I have been suffering from sciatica for about a year. It impacts my mobility and severely limits how far I can walk. Is it worth applying for pip ? Is there any chance I would qualify ?

Hi @Carolwaverley, welcome to the community. It can be difficult to say for certain whether you'd qualify until you apply, but it may be worth having a look at the PIP descriptors and seeing if you feel you'd score points. PIP is generally decided on how your condition affects you, so it's not based off a diagnosis.

There's a guide to the points system here: https://www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/personal-independence-payment-pip/pip-points-system

To qualify, you need to have experienced your condition or disability for 3 months, which you have. And then it's usually based on whether your condition is likely to continue for 9 months or more.

If you're planning to apply, there are some lovely members on here who have excellent knowledge of the system. But if you need some extra support, it can be really helpful to speak to a benefits adviser or Citizens Advice to make the most out of your forms. Turn2Us have a search tool to find local advisers here in case that's useful: https://advicefinder.turn2us.org.uk/
