Service Charge
can someone please advise. I am on Universal Credit and have been told two different things by DWP. I cannot get any help with a service charge on a flat I intend to purchase? I understand the ground rent and management fee is excluded but always thought this was part of housing costs? I have Pip and no requirement to work.

Hi @Katrina65
I think it's if you own the property or you're a leaseholder, you should get it.
In my case, I'm a leaseholder of a flat & receive the housing element from UC, for service charges minus their insurance.

if you don’t mind me asking how much is that per month. The service charge (same as leasehold I would imagine). The service charge is pretty steep on this £2,564 per annum.

Try this link, also I wouldn't personally ask DWP for benefits advice, instead you can talk to a local welfare rights organisation.

You need to have been claiming for 9 months and not have any earnings on your claim in order to claim service charge as a homeowner @Katrina65. There are more details on the link @Kimi87 shared.
