New illness whilst waiting for PIP reassessment

Hello!

I currently receive lower rate of PIP not mobility. Its been 2 years and I am being reassessed.

In the time I sent my written assessment in (last Jan) I now have a new condition that affects my mobility but it's only just been diagnosed and I'm hoping that at some point this mobility issue will get better but I have been told by the physio it will be a long time.

I need to let DWP know but I'm not sure what kind of evidence I would need to help with my claim and I also have no real idea of how quickly my healing will be.

In a bit of a pickle.

Thanks

Hi @Flateric, it can be a bit of a tough decision! Do you think your new condition would score you mobility points in an assessment? The points system is here in case you need to have a look:

The usual rule with PIP is that your condition has been affecting you for three months or more and is expected to go on for at least 9 more months. It can be really tough working out whether that might apply to something that you're not sure about time-wise. Has your physio been able to advise you on what they might mean when they say it'll be a long time?

If you do decide to put in a change of circumstance, you can include any doctors letters or statements from your physio as evidence of your new condition. As with a normal PIP review, it's also helpful to include some real-world examples of how your condition affects your ability to undertake the activities listed.

If you're not quite sure how to proceed, it may be worth speaking to a benefits adviser for a bit of support. Turn2Us have a tool to search for local help if that's something you'd like to do: https://advicefinder.turn2us.org.uk/
