My Son has been made homeless...
I am in a predicament, me and my Son have had a strained relationship over the past few yrs. Finally feel like we are in a good place. He's been made homeless due to relationship break down, he has a 7 yr old daughter who will remain at her mothers, , he wants to move in with me. I have disabilities, mental health issues and in alot of pain. I do recieve uc with the housing element, lwrca, pip daily living and mobility parts. I also do not pay council tax. I finally know where I am financially. What would happen to my benefits situations if allowed him to move into my spare room?
Thanks for listening

Hi @perdi, welcome to the community. Living with your son shouldn't affect your benefits in this case.
Depending on his situation, he may not be eligible for the same council tax reduction as you, so that may be worth checking with your local council. But for your UC and PIP, your claim should remain the same as you would usually be seen as two different households.
Are you thinking of charging him any rent while he lives with you?

Thank you Rosie for responding, I would have to take some money for food and council tax if it affects the deduction. He is currently working.

Hi,
If you have a spare bedroom but are not paying bedroom tax then it sounds like you're renting privately? As you get PIP Daily Living, there will not be a non-dependent deduction made to your Housing Element. So you should receive the same total UC if your son moves in.
Council Tax Reduction can differ in different areas, but again, because you have PIP DL generally that removes the non-dependant deduction. So in many areas your CTR would stay the same as well.
