I'm not usually much of a sports person, but I found myself drawn into the Slalom Snowboarding yesterday and I couldn't stop watching! The speed and precision of the athletes was very cool to watch.

I've also been seeing memes and clips on social media of how they prepare the ice for curling. There's a short (non meme!) video about how they do it here: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Psb0wLQyN54

Various videos have been circulating with that man shuffling backwards to the tune of Billie Jean by Michael Jackson πŸ˜†

Has anyone else been watching any of the events? Which have been your favourites so far?

The schedule is here for anyone who wants to watch along: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/winter-olympics/italy-2026/schedule/2026-02-09

I find snow boarding so impressive @Amberpearl, they must need so much core strength!!!

Really looking forward to when the bobsleigh runs begin, but my favourite so far has been the luge. I love how fast they go on just a fancy tea tray. πŸ˜‚

Do we think Team GB will win any golds this week?

I'm watching as much as I can of all of it, I love it! The curling has been great (I typed that & the doorbell went, it was a drop & run 🀬 two heavy wheelchair tyres that look like a curling stone that I've just had to foot slide to my chair so I could stand them up to reach from my chair!! 😑). Anyway, look out for snowboard & ski cross, that is brilliant. Sadly, Kirsty Muir showed some nerves in the slopestyle & just missed a medal in 4th, but she goes again in the big air, so hopefully, nerves outta the way, she'll medal.

I feel like we don't have enough snow in this country to be very good at all the winter sports. So I'm not feeling particularly hopeful for us as a team πŸ˜„ but I hope I'm proved wrong!

@JessieJ I just looked up Kirsty Muir, she's so young to be doing her second Olympics at only 21! I hope she can pull it out the bag tonight. In fact a lot of the snowboarders are pretty young too. Do you follow any of these sports when it's not the Olympics?

I'm going to try and catch the Snowboarding later but there's also Figure Skating and Ski jumping which look fun. I've added the link to the schedule to my first post but it's here if anyone wants it: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/winter-olympics/italy-2026/schedule/2026-02-09

@Rosie_Scope, yes, I watch all the winter sports through the season, plus the X Games, although, they're not shown via the normal sports channels, sadly. I do enjoy the modern additions to winter sports & the competitors in that are very young.

Look up Dave Ryding, he is our most successful Alpine skier & he did it all from dry slope skiing in Lancashire. It's his last Olympics, but we do have Lawrie Taylor & Billy Major coming through, which is great.

That's great @JessieJ, do you have a favourite winter sport or are you just generally interested in all of them? Dave Ryding looks like he's had a fantastic career considering where he started.

Some of the tricks for the snowboarding and skiing were incredible. Can't imagine the guts it takes to attempt those! Probably need to be young starting out, when you're a bit more fearless.

I also watched some of the Mogul when that was on. Looks almost painful skiing over all those mounds! Amazing skill though!

I love the ski & snowboard cross, @Rosie_Scope, also the biathlons. Actually, easy to say the ones I don't watch & they are figure skating & ice hockey. Everything else I'm trying to fit in & I have even recorded some when they clash.

The modern sports like the moguls, half pipe & aerials, whether on skis or boards, are amazing but they have to be fearless to do them. Would have loved it as a kid. I only got as far as skateboarding! πŸ˜†

The skiing and snowboarding have definitely been my favourites at the games this year @JessieJ. Did you ever learn any tricks when you were skateboarding? I always wanted to skateboard when I was younger but I could never get the hang of it.

That's brilliant @Austria97 ☺️ did you mostly ski on dry slopes or on snow too?

The skeleton is really cool too, @Rosie_Scope, plus, Matt got the first GB medal of the games & it was πŸ… what a run he had, well, four of them. Led from start to finish with a record every run. That was fantastic & well done to him. 😎 I even cried! 😁

I could do kick turns, flips & kerb jumps. We built our own ramp, but it invariably collapsed. 🀣 Before skateboards had got to our shores or we even knew about them, we were already making something 'similar' & that was from our roller skates, old metal ones & some wood tied on. It was good fun especially if we'd crashed our hacked together go cart. Those were the days! πŸ’›πŸ‘Œ

He was, @Bluebell21, it was a perfect Olympics for him & there's still the mixed team skeleton to come.
