what’s the name of the company that you work for ?
I’m pretty sure that they cannot do this .Are they paying you sick pay & is it full or part time work ?0 -
Was paying me sick pay finished work in may 2025 on full pay for 6 months starting paying me ssp in December 2025 work told me ssp for 28 weeks till June 2026 .now they have said I was payed ssp between 13 /5/2025 till 25/11/2025 no ssp every mentioned between that period. Not on wage slip.
Now saying I have been overpaid and have to pay it back.
Just getting really worried going to sacking me without any payment agreed .Terminate you on ill health exit – you will get 3 months’ notice

Are you a member of trade union ? If so you should contact them for advice. If not I would suggest that you contact ACAS on 0300 123 1100- open Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm. They offer free employment advice. It may also be a good idea to contact a local advice agency such as Citizens Advice.

I would seek legal advice, under the Equality Act 2010 they can't just bin you off for no discernible reason.
If a company did that to me I'd sue them into next week for wrongful termination, like I probably should've done that time I got fired from Boots in Meadowhall for something that wasn't directly my fault.

@Davidrodd, I am really sorry to hear about your cancer. I live with chronic cancer myself, so I do understand how complicated everything can feel when you are trying to deal with work at the same time.
For your employment situation, it might really help to speak with Macmillan’s Work Support team. They specialise in employment rights and financial matters for people with cancer, and they can look at your exact circumstances and explain what your employer can and can’t do. They are very good at helping people feel more in control of things.
They are open seven days a week, 8am until 8pm, and I think they will be able to offer you the support you need and answer your questions. See link below.
