Colonoscopy

My cousin has long standing ibs ,quite severe, her consultant recently asked if she wanted a colonoscopy to determine if she also had idb ,but she refused as she's too frightened, would that refusal go against her pip review she sent three weeks ago.

It shouldn’t go against her PIP review. PIP isn’t based on a diagnosis or on whether someone accepts a particular test or treatment, it’s based on how their condition affects them day to day, against the PIP descriptors.

I'm glad you've posted this Doglover. As MW has said PIPs based on how you're affected on a day to day basis. But I apologise for going off at a tangent And I certainly don't mean to hijack your post, I don't know how to start my own. But I'm wondering if anyone has had a questionable FIT test, seen a consultant about it who mentioned a colonoscopy? That's my situation but due to my disabilities there's no way I could have one or an endoscopy. A scan was also mentioned and I think it's my only option although due to arthritis in my back it's going to be painful. I can't lie on my back to mean it but it's the best option of the bunch. . It's a funny situation I'm in and I'm wondering if anyone else has been too? I'm pretty sure there's nothing untoward going on but I'd like to know for definite

@birdwatcher You aren't hijacking anything. Go right ahead. Ask away, hope you get answers,We are here to help eachother. She is terrified of having one, she has severe panic attacks and a past of significant trauma.

It’s completely understandable to want clear answers when the usual tests just aren’t possible for you. Lots of people can’t tolerate colonoscopies or endoscopies, and scans are often used instead.  If lying flat is painful, it’s fine to tell the team treating you and they can talk through other options more suitable for you.

I also saw you mention that you are not sure how to start your own posts. When you log in, look to the right‑hand side where the recent posts are. At the top there’s a + New Post box, click that, choose New Discussion, pick a category from the list, then add a title (this is where you give your post a name), and then in the box below the title type your post. When you are ready, click Post Discussion.
