As others have said - DO NOT RESIGN

If necessary - is there some form of medical / Ill Health retirement that you can take ?

When you say you’re worried you will lose benefits if you resign, I’m not sure whether you’re receiving any benefits at the moment. The only reason I ask is that you posted back in April 2024 about your ESA and were looking into the Support Group, and poppy123456 gave you some advice on the process.

You don’t need to share anything you’re not comfortable with. I’m just unsure whether you’re currently receiving benefits and are worried that resigning could affect them, or whether you’re thinking about how resigning might affect a new claim.

My understanding is that people in the Support Group aren’t sanctioned for giving up work because of health difficulties.

thank you so much yes I am receiving benefits but unsure if I will have a sanction if I resign as I have been on a career break and not well enough to return to my post

I am certain from what I’ve read over the years that you would just revert back to your benefits and there wouldn’t be a sanction, especially when you’re not well enough to return.  However, I’ve never had any dealings with this side of things myself, so I’m going to copy @Kimi87 in here as she understands the benefits rules far better than I do and will be the best person to advise you.

I really hope you’re able to get things sorted soon and can focus on your health.

I hate to be harsh but if you jump before you're pushed, you won't be entitled to a penny.
