Joining the care profession

I want to join the care profession. I read opportunities but they want experience. Other than caring for my mother the past 10 years after her acquiring a TBI. & a brain tumour. Aiding her recovery in many ways. How can I get experience to progress to gaining certificates please ?

    I think it’s excellent that you’re looking into becoming a professional carer after caring for your mother for the past 10 years.

    A number of carers I know in care homes have gained their certificates after starting work there, not before. Others have gotten involved by volunteering to gain experience first. Remember that all experience is valid, even if it’s not paid employment. Many employers would value your personal experience of caring for your mum too.

    Don’t be put off applying, personal statements or application letters are a great place to highlight your experience and interest in this area.

    Is there a specific area of the care profession you’re hoping to join?

    I would like to help by being the part of the person that is missing. What ever ability they can no longer do.

    which means they have a disability.

    I saw in my mother the sadness and frustration that she could not care for her home, her garden , her vehicle, her pets & mainly herself . She lost the ability to all the things we take for granted. So I'm want to help in anyway I can. If that means working within a care community- in a care home. Rehabilitation unit. or just Companionship. I'm just happy to help make their day better.

    I would like to gain experience & certificates so I can help people in which ever country I live.

    Hello @JaydonVS Lots of places hire people without experience. Although it sounds like you do have experience, just not in paid employment. Have you looked at different settings in your local area? Care homes, domiciliary care, day care centres, hospice, dementia units, supported living etc. They are all slightly different and require different skills, different levels of physical care etc.
