    Hi

I had a total hip replacement on 12th January 2026. I would like to ask everyone if they thought the physio I received eas enough. I had a full day of physio on day before I was released. I have the spreadsheets I received when I was discharged. No
I am in terrible pain and do try to do physio daily. I know it’s only been a short time but felt it was rushed on me. Question is .. is this supposed to be the case?

I am supposed to have my other knee done in a few months time but am thinking of cancelling. Everything about the op went well but don’t think I could go through this pain.
Any possible positive would be appreciated.

As a long retired physio I was dismayed when my neighbour came home with a print out of the exercises he was supposed to do. Thankfully knowing my background he had already asked me to check if he was doing these exercises correctly; he wasn't, but I was able to help.

To me, that was not physio as I knew it. A total knee replacement is a big thing to get through. May I advise that you do your physio a little & often, & build up very gradually. If movement causes you pain it can increase the 'pain cycle,' so bend your knee for example as much as you can without it increasing your pain.

Recovery from such surgery does take time, so please check you understand the exercises to do them correctly. They should be something like here: https://www.royalberkshire.nhs.uk/media/ww5bknsi/advice-and-exercises-after-total-knee-replacement_nov24.pdf

I am pleased to say my neighbour is doing well, as I hope you do too, tho he went through both some good & a few bad days. It's sometimes difficult to be a 'patient' patient, but you'll get there. I wouldn't cancel your upcoming surgery on your other knee, but only you will know when you feel up to contemplating surgery again. My best wishes.

Welcome to the community @ospery2000. Looks like Chiarieds has offered some lovely advice so far. Sorry to hear your recovery has been so painful.

Is there anyone you can speak to about how the physio has been affecting you? For example, the team you had your operation with, or someone at your GP surgery.

Perhaps they'd be able to offer some advice about the best way forward without increasing your pain. I hope things start improving for you soon ☺️
