Esa support long term i tried ft work failed 3weeks
Hi , long term on esa support autism adhd late diagnosed ,felt I needed to get out of the house and returned to my old ft job after 8yrs ,but 3 weeks later the signs were showing and so I called esa about the 12week fast track whixh they assured me would be available so okay to try working.
Was told No not exactly because you went full time ,so its now day 9 after the call to esa no paper work ,but uc have been made aware and ive clicked i have been on esa less than 12weeks ago.. submitted fitnote to esa via their link .. but advisor has said they will send esa50 and my old assors sheet to help.. have I been incorrectly informed 🤔 id be misinformed at the 12week its seems but so wanted to try again and now its worse than before with not knowing ? Any advise please should I call back or just wait ,roughly at week 5 of the 12week window ,masking to my wife that im okay but really worried its added stress 😩 ,50 autism & adhd

Hi @wanderinggoose, I'm so sorry that you're feeling so stressed about all of this. Do you have any support?
I've found some information here: . It states that:
"If you need to go back on to ESA within 12 weeks, your claim will be linked to the old one. This means any Contributory ESA will draw on the same National Insurance contributions as your last claim.
You will also return to ESA - Contributory or Income-related - at the rate of ESA you were on. The DWP may consider if your health has changed and whether you need to be re-assessed, but the old rate would continue until any such new assessment was completed.
If you carry on in work beyond 12 weeks, then it will be a completely new ESA claim."
I can't find anything that discussed how full-time work affects it. I'm not a trained benefits advisor so I'd recommend calling them back to discuss it. Sorry I can't be any more help. Hopefully one of our members may have experience of this.

Hi Rachel,
That's exactly how I did it via social prescriber once a week ,then 6 weeks over xmas at college 2 days a week ,then tried my old job where my diagnosis was discovered 2017 I felt like id never left ,but this wasn't sustainable so had to resign and agreed by esa new claim line
So first I was told no go online so I did and it does indeed ask if you have claimed esa in the last 12weeks which was 3 weeks ago I left 26th jan esa
Once completed and sent fitnote
I then telephoned and explained what I was told when signing off esa support on the 26th and she told me then about the rapid reclaim before 12weeks,
So far everyone has said at. Esa we stopped that late 2025 and was told an esa50 is coming but one agent did offer to send my assessors sheet so I could copy it over I accepted but neither have arrived and tomorrow is two weeks or 10working days
But still nope the 12week rule has ended and one said it didnt support fulltime anyway ,very confusing at esa. Last time i claimed I needed a letter from my specialist doctor requesting I be placed in the support group to allow volunteer so just hoping its all a technicality as they have said they can see my file ..
EExtremely Long morning that was and completely overwhelmed me which is quite useful to have as an understanding of how I get overwhelmed by communication

I hear the dwp is going to force claimants into work group or payments will stop this is a progressive amendment to uc and esa to get everyone working even if you have a diagnosis for whatever condition you have is this true I watched a video in the justice journals YouTube channel im not for work and can only do 10 to 13 hours a week

Hi @craigmack903 I don't think this would be allowed - a lot of people can't work due to their condition and it would be against human rights to force someone into work which could cause harm to them.

UPDATE.
so its now called a dual claim 🤔
Had my 60min call from universal and for the first bit she was insisting that I close the esa claim it wasn't until she read my notes previous claim and only lasting 3 week before symptoms te appeared, she then explained that she's going to inform esa to accept the claim and return me to support group which isn't being migrated as such ,so that seems to tie in with the reply above about the youtube story they are indeed pushing you back to work and closing the door behind you.
I have spoken to my specialist Dr and she has written a letter stating the facts of my symptoms and I need to return to the esa support group to allow me access to other services such as social prescriber without the need for wrag .
The uc advisor emailed me and asked for the letter as evidence and then said she's putting the claim through..
During this time ive not received one payment.
Not many people at the dwp call.side know the changes only the new script it seems..
Will update once I hear more

Anyone can say anything on YouTube channels and its best to not watch it let alone believe it to be true.
The only true sources are official government decisions/announcements.

This is wrong on several levels IMO, I've lived with and met more disabled people than I can count who could no more go out and work than I could put on that Eagle costume I wore this morning and actually fly.

Ive not watched it as I have enough aniexty as it is.
Theres nothing you can do about it. But this is the 7th advisor ive spoken to and luckily the one who hosted the call and she understands and knows and hopefully instructing esa .
But ive received a letter from the call saying i am exempt from attending activities at jc

You said you had watched a video on the Justice channels on YouTube about it.

Incorrect !! Here's what I actually said as the quote you posted doesn't mention it .
",so that seems to tie in with the reply above about the youtube story "
About the youtube story .
I have not stated ive watched it just commenting about what someone else had mentioned .
Please fact check! I have enough anxiety without dealing with replies like this one .

I have gone back and checked.
You wrote "I watched a video in the Justice channels on YouTube.
I'm not for work and can only do 10 to 13 hours a week"
I apologise if I have misunderstood that but it reads pretty clear to me.
You didn't state you were commenting about what someone else had mentioned.

Right reply wrong poster ,not me

Thank you but that isn't made clear in the post I replied to so it was easily misunderstood.

Sometimes I don't think it's worth commenting on threads at all, I can't remember being unpleasant on this thread at all. But there you go, another post gone. It's a wonder people post on threads at all when the mods only see one side or agree on one side of the story.

Moderation decisions are usually based on forum rules rather than taking sides. If a post gets removed then the rules must've been broken somewhere. It might help to give the rules a quick read over, sometimes that clears up any confusion about what’s allowed.
