Puppy love & kindness
The day before yesterday, I popped into the local town. Hattie, my dachs, always gets loads of attention, sometimes way too much for me. Anyway, took some stuff into the charity shop. Fuss was made of Hats & then they asked if they could give her a treat, yes, okay. Went into a clothes shop to return something, fuss made & they asked if she could have treats, in a clothes shop! Went into a new to me coffee shop, same happened, told it was dog friendly & could she have some treats. Then took her to a vets appointment & yet more treats.
Then yesterday, went into the city, had just bought some treats & a lovely Asian lady came over & asked if she could give me some treats for her, it was a big bag she had just bought, she had seen us both in the shop. Apparently, she's not allowed a dog, but likes to buy treats for some people's dogs, bless her. Seriously, there are plenty of dog lovers around & puppy love is healthy & cheers folk up, but the generosity is quite amazing. Must admit, I was pretty gobsmacked by the kind lady yesterday.
Have also had two older ladies with their little shopping trolley, at separate times, asked if they could say hello to Hattie & could she have a treat, as they carried some in their trolley. They also weren't allowed to have a dog either. So sweet, yet so sad.
Has anybody else had this happen?

Sounds like Hattie had a fabulous day yesterday @JessieJ!! Lovely to hear about the kind people in this world.
A dog can always cheer up my day and I love it when I am out and about and see dogsπ
Snowy can sometimes get a fair bit of attention with people asking to pet him when we are out, especially if he has just had a groom so he is very clean and coiffed π€£1 -
I'm housebound and always watch the dogs that pass my home while they are out on their walks. Just seeing them sniffing around is a joy. I'm sure Hattie is a hit with people as she seems very sweet. π
I remember the first time I went out on my mobility scooter after being stuck in the house for months and I came across a lady with a dog. I asked if I could pet the dog. I was literally crying because it was so nice to be out in the sunshine and pet a cute dog.

Dogs are a great conversation starter. When I first moved house my new neighbours all knew Toby's name none of them mine.
Your Hattie drew everyone with her magic yesterday. You will not have to buy any treats for a while. @JessieJ
Take care.

She certainly did, Mary & all the treats on top of the usual attention. Thank goodness all the treats were a rarity, otherwise her weight would shoot up! π So Snowy needs another groom after hie jaunts out then? π It is lovely for the dogs, especially if they've been well socialised as pups.
I'm sorry that you're housebound, @MissMarple. Do you have any friends that have dogs that would visit with them. If not, if you don't mind visitors, there are some organisations & charities that visit people at home, maybe look up & see if there's one near you. Would give you a real boost & puppy love is the best, as you know.
They sure are, Bluebell, sometimes could do with a bit less though. You're right, as with Toby, all my neighbours & most of the kids around where I live know her name, I'm anonymous. π Or as the lady in a wheelchair with a sausage! π I live near a secondary school & the amount of kids, especially teen lads, even in groups say love your dog or she's cute, it's amazing. π
Take care too

Thank you @JessieJ Yes, I have visits from friends with dogs. It's always a pleasure.

That's great, @MissMarple, so you're not starved of puppy love. It is very good for the health, unless you're allergic of course!! π
Yep, in the summer I corrected them to a hotdog! π

π Hattie must be adorable as a hotdog π

Actually, she is a hotdog, @MissMarple. I haven't needed to worry about not having the heating on, as she is always on or beside me & lays down my back or spoons in bed. π She is so warm, sometimes too warm! π

I get to 'borrow' my son & wife's dog 2 or 3 days a week. Everyone seems to greet him & know his name, & don't have a clue as to who I am, or fuss him as the only Bedlington terrier around here. It took literally years before some realised that I was actually my son's Mum & lived nearby & that was why I was looking after Stan!
Stan is a hotdog too, & likes to lie upon my legs keeping them warm with his head dropping down over the sofa; a Bedlington trait. I miss him when he goes back home, but my cat, Shadow, doesn't! Being a terrier he likes to chase her, but he'll also lick her face, which she puts up with.
Shadow keeps my feet warm at night, tho I sometimes have difficulty getting to sleep as she often then decides she needs to move around 'washing' herself.
Stan is ever so friendly to both other dogs & people; I'm sure he'd like Hattie too!

I had to look up Bedlington terrier @chiarieds First I thought I was looking at some cute lambs π What colour is Stan?
Sounds like you and Hattie are a great team @JessieJ Does she snore? π

Stan is a light grey colour @MissMarple - & yes, people often liken him to a lamb. He still thinks he's a puppy, tho 10 years old, & often people think he's a puppy as he is a quite small Bedlington terrier.

Hi @chiarieds
It's great that you get to share Stan, even though Shadow may not be a fan. It's a bonus when they like to be close & double up as warmers. It is amazing how we can be anonymous, but our animals are so well known. In your case, crazy that your connection wasn't known for so long, but it is all about the animals. As for Stan & Hattie getting on, that would be a surety, as Hattie loves all dogs, those that like to charge around playing chase even moreso. Trouble with Hats, is getting her to understand not all dogs want to say hello or play.
Thankfully, @MissMarple, Hattie isn't a snorer, but she definitely runs after rabbits in her sleep & sometimes has conversations with them, that's what it sounds like anyway.

Puppy love? How lovely! My own puppies 13 but she's my baby! π .
But I was thinking of a dog who was actually in kennels when I got my own dog. She got adopted by a family who live not far from me as it turned out. Nice dog.
Anyway, I used to always have a few treats in my pocket and she knew it. Every time I saw her she'd sit and give me her paw for a goodie. But on one particular occasion I saw her and of course she did sit and paw. Waggy tail. She's all excited! But when I put my hand in my pockets they were empty! I'd washed my jacket and hadn't thought on to replace the treats! That poor dog! I felt really guilty! That's got be nigh on ten years ago and still feel bad about it

Thankfully, @birdwatcher, she will have forgotten that very quickly. We are funny beasts, aren't we? To let something like that stay with us. Good that you have an older pup, we chose to have them, so our babies they shall stay. βΊοΈ
I actually carry treats in Hattie's bag for her & also her doggy friends in the pup park. There's actually a crow that hangs around there & up until it got too wet for me & when it was just me & Hats, I fed him too. Well, when we walk by the crow flys in & gives a shout, it's incredible, as he knows & follows until I stop for treat time. It's only an odd day from all the days we do the parks that he has missed since October maybe. π
