Motability or easy pay mobility opinions

I have two scooters i bought second hand from Mobility Giant, the same company doing easy pay hire.

As with anything, you get what you pay for. Motability will be far more accommodating to your possibly changing needs, you can return your scooter or powerchair if you find it no longer suits your needs, getting something else that does.

I was thinking the same as you, and I am pretty sure easy pay will be far more critical of any wear and tear on the vehicle than Motability.

My two scooters I bought from Mobility Giant, a class 3 and a boot scooter, both at 1 year old. They came with a 1 year warranty, which they honoured without quibble, when the class 3 developed a problem. The local mobility shop took it away, and left me with a courtesy scooter.

I have a class 3 powerchair from Motability, and they do an assessment in your home beforehand, to make sure you are getting the right product for your current needs.

I'm glad I bought my scooters, the class 3 does about 60 miles plus per week, out with my dog, the boot scooter is self explanatory!

It turns out it didn't need a class 3 powerchair, as even although it is a top model, it is still a very bumpy ride compared to a class 3 scooter. I really only use it at home, or the very rare hospital appointment requiring a bus journey.

If I were you, I would stick with the very good Motability service. At least let them explain why they are a superior option than easy pay?

My insurance is with Surewise btw, when you buy a mobility scooter from Mobility Giant, you get 1 month free insurance with Mark Bates, but I thought their quote was very expensive, so after that month, I turned to Surewise, who were considerably cheaper.

From what I’ve read, Easy Pay Mobility can sometimes look cheaper because it’s basically a hire agreement, while Motability is more of an all-inclusive lease linked to benefits. The key thing is checking the small print on things like servicing, breakdown support, and what happens if something needs replacing. Motability is usually simpler because everything is handled in one place, but some people prefer the flexibility of private hire. Threads like this always remind me how many different transport services exist around the country, even unrelated ones like Recovery Birmingham that you only hear about when problems happen. If anyone has actually used both, their real experience would probably be the best comparison.
