An interesting read and I can see a few different sides to this.
One part of the article that stood out to me was the comments from GPs saying they often feel like they can’t say no to signing a fit note.
Mental health is complicated and often subjective. A GP might only have a short appointment and limited background, and if someone says they’re struggling badly at work, it’s probably very hard for the doctor to confidently say “no, you should keep working.” I imagine there's a worry about getting it wrong and someone’s mental health deteriorates after being refused.

They're damned either way IMO, a Doctor gives a fit note, they get called from a Pig to a dog by right wingers who hate benefit claimants, if they don't, they get accused of ableism.

I think they're stuck between an rock and a hard place, in one there's not enough treatment places and in the other they've got politicians breathing down their neck to stop it.
