UC help asd
Hi can anyone help me please. I have a 4 year old autistic non verbal little boy. He gets higher rate DLA and will get lower rate mobility in May. It has been quite a stressful few years to get his diagnosis. I am currently on maternity leave and work as a teaching assistant. They pay is awful, with nursery fees looking at around £600 I've been looking into staying at home with my youngest until he is at school.
But I'm finding everything very confusing, I am speaking to my manager on Monday and need things straight in my mind. I did speak to an advisor on UC chat but not sure if what he said was correct. So just have a few questions.
What would I be entitled to? I've heard about a child element and a disabled child element? Are they extra?
How long before I finish work should I apply?
Would appreciate any advice. Thank you

Hi @becs14, the disability child element is additional to the child element and you can claim alongside UC. Typically it's suggested you wait until in receipt of your last payslip or final working day to begin the process of applying for UC.
