Heating oil payments support
Anyone else using Heating oil and wondering if the announcement today of £53m in support for the vulnerable towards heating oil bills will apply to them? I think its early days but it looks like it will be dished out by councils. Just wondering if those on PIP like myself will be eligible.
Its literally doubled in price almost overnight.

@Bingo. It sounds like it will be part of the resilience fund offered by councils, so the rules might be different depending on where you live. Hopefully you'll be eligible for some help though! I don't use heating oil myself but my parents do and the prices have risen so fast, it's been mad!
Finger's crossed we'll hear a bit more about it over the next few days.

In 2026 I'm wondering why councils aren't able to support/promote alternatives to heating oil? Even in more rural areas, older properties, there's better tech available and getting cheaper all the time..
MSE has a good article on it and is likely to provide more info as its available.

I think heat source pumps and lots of solar are an option but an expensive one. I priced it all up for my house the other day and it came to about £30k. Its a massive upheaval as well. Half our house is 270 years old and the old stone houses in the country can be problematic I gather. I would be happy to get shot of having oil heating though.

I was watching a vid on Skill Builder on air to air heat pumps - (cheaper, than Air to Wate)r as well as self install solar ('Thunder' was a brand' aiming at smaller properties.
There's also a Guy Martin program on C4 with an very expensive retrofit of a stone building to Passivehause standards..
There's so much new tech on the market its hard to keep up.. I have solar but the landlord won't let me install batteries, however with an EV & bidirectional charging :) I'm working on it:D1 -
I'm also concerned as a Park Home owner who doesn't have mains gas, rather LPG. I think it's right & fair that there will be some help for those using heating oil, but feel we may have been forgotten.
The last Gov't eventually considered an 'Alternative Fuel Payment' as otherwise those using heating oil, LPG, etc. would not have benefitted from the 'Energy Price Guarantee,' so I would think it would be an idea to consider everyone who doesn't have a domestic gas supply here again.
Thankfully we're coming out of winter, as we also have to pay our Park Home owner business rates for electricity, tho he does try to find the best contract he can.
