UC - I am my son’s appointee - guidance needed
sorry for the long post :
Good morning. I am my son’s appointee and the UC was going into my account that like a fool I also used for my own wages etc. however I was paying his bills and transferring the rest of the money in his account. I have uploaded the statements for the said account and also have his bank statements ready as well as the savings accounts mine and his to show not a lot . I have requested an extra link on his journal to add them on. I even printed statements for Revolut and PayPal ( all in my name ).
My question is, how long till they send the extra link? They don’t seem to be responding to anything I asked, should I chase up with phone call? I have also asked them for a little extension, I’ve lost my mother on 08/03 and my head is all over the place. I told them that but still no reply!
Yes, I’ve learned my lesson and contacted the bank for appointment on opening an appointee account in my son’s name only . I genuinely did not know that I could do that , in my mind I thought as everything was done electronically, there would be a clear footprint . Also his girlfriend who lives 4 hours away comes to visit every now and then and has put bits of money in his account while visiting for food ( 110 and 100£ respectively), they have helped each other out with small amounts of money . This is on his bank statements, will it cause issues? His father pays100£ per month, money that he transfers in my account that I then use towards his therapy CBT sessions that I pay via REVOLUT or towards psychiatrist reviews.
The date to submit everything is 24/03.
I hope they will see that everything is there .
I am stressed but I know I haven’t done anything wrong .
Please can you advise me? Thank you 🙏🏼

I was in a similar position but someone on here made me aware before our son transferred over to uc. I opened a joint account and was able to do it online as he also had a sole account with the same bank. So from about this time last year his ESA went into it and made it a bit easier when transferring over to UC. I have read other people’s experiences of having to include all of their own transactions when the money goes into an account belonging to the appointee which is also a personal account. It will be easier going forward but you can have a joint account just in case you weren’t aware. Hope you get sorted.

Hi @stilllooking, I'm so sorry to hear of your mum passing away recently. Have you got plenty of support?
I'm not sure how long it will take them to send the link I'm afraid. Yes, I would chase them up with a call as then you can hopefully get an answer immediately. I'm not a benefits adviser but I think that if you're able to show that the benefit money is being spent on his care that will be fine. The payments from his Dad and girlfriend shouldn't be an issue either if you can prove where that money is spent. They may not even go into this much detail, but if they do it seems that you know where the money is going so you'll be able to answer their questions.
Sorry I can't be more certain. If you wanted to speak to a trained benefits adviser you can find someone here
