I'm so sorry that your dad is so ill and that your psychiatrist is leaving. It's no wonder that you're struggling. Have you got another psychiatrist lined up?

So do you have therapy and also appointments with a psychiatrist? Have they not recommended who you should contact?

Hello @Catherine21 it is difficult when we have several changes in our lives.
It will be a year on the first of April since Toby died. It has helped me a lot having Sam although he can never replace Toby. It might be a good idea for you to get another little dog not to replace Fifi but to help you adjust. I know you have said you are thinking about this. Just be aware it will be a shock at first how much energy a young pet has. Toby was 15 and just plodded at the end Sam is a live wire and never seems to sleep. You never forget the pets you have had but you do adjust and it becomes a little less raw.
I hope you do not have to wait too long to get a new psychiatrist.
It is very hard to deal with parents when they become very ill, you are doing the best you can.
Please take care of yourself.

I'm sure you'll be able to find another psychiatrist who is just as nice. It might be a bit difficult at first once you get to know them but you'll get there just like you did with this one 😊

Hi
Endings and change can be really, really difficult and I struggle massively with them. Have you got someone you can trust who can help you pick out your biggest concerns over it all and then look at what you or someone you can trust can come up with?
When I've lost therapists in the past its killed me, well its definitely felt that way, especially when you're still struggling.
I find this forum the most supportive and helpful one ever so please use us too.
Losing a pet is horrendous. Could you volunteer to walk a dog for a friend or a charity? Nothing will ever replace Fifi but this type of thing might fill a space in your day and act as a distraction.
Sending best wishes

I saw a therapist for 2.5 years and was so incredibly attached to her. She always showed a huge amount of care and compassion and I couldn't imagine life without her (I attach hard). When it came to end I was heartbroken, literally, I cried for ages. I don't think it was so much the therapy as her care and the way she made me feel like I mattered and counted. That was hard to give up. That was back in 2011 and I still think about her often. I'm basically saying this to show that I understand how hard it is. I hate the phrase that it gets better with time but it has. You need to be patient with yourself and allow whatever feelings and emotions come up, come up. try not to judge them, they're always valid no matter how painful they are.
This might make way for something even better. Try to find a glimmer of hope and hold onto it. Hope itself can help with healing❤️
