Hello everyone,

I'm quite new to this, so hope this is the right space to post.

Reaching out as I feel like I've got nowhere to go and feeling isolated, trying to navigate a really complex situation, and seeing if anyone as had any experiences and/or can guide me.

I've been on PIP for quite a few years, I didn't claim for a long time as I work full-time (for DWP, but the Corporate side, not in benefits) and they've been amazing as employers supporting me, and it was my Manager at the time who encouraged me to apply (as she was an ex PIP Case Manager) and I was awarded enhanced daily living and enhanced mobility - was such a game changer, the care support I got using my PIP was amazing.

I have a pretty complex health profile; Autism, ADHD, Functional Neuro Disorder (seizures, paralysis, drop attacks, dexterity issues, memory issues, difficulty mobilising, speech issues etc etc.), PTSD, complex mental health issues (severe depression, anxiety, personality disorders), chronic pain and a spinal injury. They all intermingle, present at different times, or all at once, different severity and intensity, and sometimes they're like a domino effect. I'm pretty high masking with super high burnout.

My condition has changed over the years, but it's impact on me hasn't, and it's pretty tricky to assess if you're looking at a snapshot in time. Like most, I have 'good' and 'bad' days, but the majority of the time, my comorbid conditions have a devastating impact on my life.

I had to move from the North to the South of England due to DV and the access to care is so hugely different. I lost Neuro Rehab, Mental Health Teams, Autism Pathways etc. even my package of care. I am just about getting there with it all and managed to get interim support from a Home Treatment Team, but it's been HELL and I've had to manage on my own (really unsuccessfully). I'm an intermittent wheelchair user and my wheelchair broke, and it was unusable in the end, and the access to funding here was not existent in comparison to where I previously lived. So I only go out when I'm physically able now. It's been a real postcode lottery.

As far as I was concerned, nothing had changed in relation to my health or it's impact on me, it is still a real challenge. Therefore no Change of Circs. I informed them of my address change.

Then the Interview Under Caution letter came explaining a failure to declare a change of circumstances. Obviously, this high level of stress, had a huge impact on me - the flare up was unreal, it hospitalised me. I gave them the evidence and asked for reasonable adjustments for the next one, to which they agreed to. She had emailed me saying they would be in touch in the new year with a new date. They then showed up at my house with the Police and threatened to arrest me if I didn't come voluntarily. They forced me out of bed, banging on my door, being quite aggressive with me, and escorted me to the Police Station. They didn't even carry out the interview, they let me go after holding me and stressing me out for over an hour. Belittling me, and making me feel like a total criminal. The Police were lovely, apologised to me, and took me home.

By this stage I was in such a complete state healthwise full-blown mental and physical crisis. I'll be really open and admit that I lost the ability to cope. I tried to [Removed by moderator - Graphic] in fear of them coming back. They TERRIFIED me and I'm quite a vulnerable guy. My neighbours called 999 and I was taking to hospital. I had a lot of intervention at this point and the Consultant wrote to them explaining my conditions, and that their repeated pursuing me was causing a significant risk and that no further interviews could take place.

The care team helped me write a complaint, to which the Fraud Team told complete LIES in their response.

I have now received a letter to say my PIP has been suspended pending a Case Manager review due to doubts of my eligibility. They asked to send further medical evidence (which I can do) but they had everything in April 2025 and awarded a full award.

I can honestly say I haven't intentionally in any way committed fraud and my conditions as backed up by a Neurologist, Autism Consultant, Psychiatrist, OT, Neurosurgeon and Social Worker. I'm not sure what else they want me to prove? Yes, I can send in a new care plan etc from a new team but it's the same information they're already aware of?

They refuse to provide any further information and the whole process has been so diminishing and invalidating. I've been made to feel like a complete liar, benefit fraudster and a cheat. I think it's shameful.

The worst thing, if they deem me 'guilty' they will dismiss me without notice, due to the Civil Service Code of Conduct.

Sorry for the long post, felt like the context was needed.

Feeling a bit lost and helpless.

Hi @Frasey90. Thank you for sharing everything, it sounds like you are dealing with so much. It all seems very unfair and excessive. I see you already complained but maybe you could go to the Ombudsman? Here are their details: https://www.ombudsman.org.uk/

I would send them the evidence that they're asking for, even though they already have it. It seems that you have a good team of support people who can help you. Do you have any support at home?

I've sent you an email so be on the lookout for it.

@Frasey90, I am really sorry you are going through all of this. What you have described is genuinely awful. The way they turned up at your home with the police after agreeing to reschedule is completely unacceptable. Nobody should be treated like that, especially when you had already engaged with the process and asked for reasonable adjustments.

It makes complete sense that this has had such a severe impact on you. Anyone would have struggled after being put under that level of pressure, and the fact that the police apologised says a lot about how unnecessary the whole situation was.

You also mentioned the Civil Service Code of Conduct and the fear of being dismissed without notice if they wrongly decide you have done something wrong. That is a huge amount of extra pressure. If you are in a union, please contact them as soon as possible. They can support you through any internal process, challenge anything that is disproportionate.

It would also help to get specialist advice. Citizens Advice or a welfare rights organisation can look at the details of your case and help you respond to the suspension of your PIP. They can also explain what the DWP should and should not be doing in situations like this.

Keep a record of everything. Every email, every phone call, the police visit, your hospital admission, your complaint and their response. A clear timeline will be very important, especially if the fraud team have given inaccurate information. It may also be worth contacting your MP, because they can make formal enquiries on your behalf.

On the medical evidence, send everything again even though they already have it. Treat it as a new claim. If you can get updated letters from your neurologist, psychiatrist, autism consultant, occupational therapist, social worker, or anyone else involved in your care, that will help reinforce the picture.

You are completely right that moving areas and losing access to services is not a change of circumstances for PIP. Your conditions have not improved, and you have extensive professional evidence supporting that. You reported your address change, which is exactly what you were required to do.

You have not done anything wrong, and nothing in what you have written suggests dishonesty. Please do not let the way you have been treated make you feel like a criminal. I really hope you have people around you who can support you while you deal with this.

I wouldn't worry too much, as mentioned you've done everything right, it's just certain people peddling a false narrative that all disabled benefit claimants are on the make.
