Hi, I'm jlopez! Son has moved in to care for me, how will it affect my benefits?

Due to ill health, memory loss leaving cooker on etc. my son has always cared for me, but didn’t live with me, he has now moved in with me due to him worrying and wants to be here 24/7. I’ve been trying to get advice and I’m getting all different advice. I’m receiving UC. LCWRA, and PIP daily living component. I have a three bed house so he will be in one bedroom. The other I will still have to pay bedroom tax on I’ve been told. Will my housing benefit be affected? And does anyone have an idea how much council tax will have to be paid? I’ve rang the council tax several times after informing them of a change of circumstances, but I was told I have to wait on them writing back with a sum. No mention of if I can get a discount as he’s my carer, looking after me for over 35 hrs. Etc. (advice been giving to me there as well) I’m all over with other people’s advice, I’d really be grateful for any advice, from anyone who has knowledge on these subject. 🙏

    Council Tax Reduction is decided on at a local level and each local authority has different rules for this meaning it's very hard to advise on individual cases from here.

    I'd recommend contacting a local welfare rights organisation who will be familiar with the rules in your area.

    Your local authority website might also have a calculator.

    Your UC Housing Element will be based on a two bedroom entitlement.

    Due to your PIP a non dependant deduction will not apply to your Housing Element.
