Hi, my name is D4time26!
I am a 73 year old pensioner and have been frequenting a local pub now for about 7 - 8 years, it's very locally and has various cliques but I have found a decent group to drink with and get on with most others and the staff. However there is a certain long term local group who have strong political affiliations and cannot stand to hear other people's opinions. I am ok when I'm with my group but when I'm on my own they harass, pick arguments and accuse me of being an extremist which I am not. I can't complain to the owner (it's a free house) as they are part of the group too and I'm afraid I will get barred. The manager is sympathetic but he won't go against the locals or his boss. I am finding this increasingly concerning as I've been threatened with violence twice and at my age and disabilities this does worry me.
Any suggestions as to what I could do? I don't want to drink anywhere else because it's by far the best and cheapest pub in town.
Thanks in advance.

Hi @D4time26 and a warm welcome to the community from me!
I am sorry to hear you are going through this. It sounds very frustrating.
Is it possible to only visit when you know your group will be there? I know this may not sound very fair but it may be the safest option especially as you sound becoming increasing concerned.
I know you said the manager is sympathetic but i'm wondering if there is another member of staff that you trust that may be able to help? Even if it is just so they are of aware of how that group treats you when you're alone.
If you do find yourself alone and they approach you, it may be helpful to be as boring and non responsive as possible by denying them the reaction they are looking for. as bullies love a reaction!!
It also may be helpful to make a record of everything that has happened as you will have proof of escalation if things do go further.0
