Hello everyone i could do with some help please. when i was on IR esa i used to care for my dad until he passed away back in 2016 carers was notified and so was esa however over the recent years esa had been deducting carers from my esa up until i notified them back in 2025 explaining why are they still taking carers from me when i no longer claim it since 2016 anyway i've migrated to uc at the end of last year since then i have received a payment off esa of 18k recently when i got the phone call about the payment i asked would it be disregard and if so how long and she said for the length of my uc claim, now then i told uc regards to the payment and it was backdated payment of arrears of carers allowance that was deducted from my esa but what i want to know is why has uc only disregarded it for 12 months. for the last 8 years of my life i have been scrimping and scraping to make ends meet paying bills ect leaving myself with only £17 for food i feel as if i've been deprived all them years and now they say it's only disregarded for 12 months i feel as if they are depriving me more as i don't want to rush into spending it

As it's over £5000 plus the arrears being due to official error it should be disregarded for the length of your UC claim.

Request a Mandatory Reconsideration of the decision to disregard for 12 months only.

Thank you they did send me a message saying "The disregard is for 12 months or until the end of your current award whichever comes first", so is it right they only disregarded it for 12 months, and how do i do a Mandatory reconsideration.

If you click on the purple text in my previous reply it will take you to that information.

However now you've posted the wording I'd say it is disregarded until the end of your award which means as long as you remain on Universal Credit.

Perhaps you could check with a local trained benefits advisor.

Thank you i will take a look, if it is disregarded for aslong as i'm on uc what will happen after 12 months will it affect my uc in any way, It's all new to me and very frustrating.

If the disregard is for the life of your claim then nothing should happen after 12 months.

You might benefit from talking to a local welfare rights organisation for reassurance - click on the purple text in my previous reply "Services for organisations" to locate help.
