Hi @user31, I'm sorry you've had that experience. I've seen a few members here mention how the report didn't match what they'd actually said so hopefully they'll see this and share their experience.

A lot of people end up having to appeal the decision, I ended up at tribunal before I was awarded. I can understand the stress of going through it all but I would say it's worth trying if you're able to. Here's some information about appealing https://www.scope.org.uk/advice-and-support/challenging-pip-or-other-benefits-decisions

Do you have enough support at home?

@saj26 yes you can record the assessment as long as you ask beforehand. Here is some information:

    Recording your assessment

It might be useful to make a recording of your assessment in case you need to challenge the decision.

If your assessment is face to face or over the phone, you and the assessor can both make an audio recording. You can’t make a video recording.

You’ll need to ask if it can be recorded - you should phone the assessor as soon as possible before your assessment.

You’ll need to agree you’ll only use the recording for certain things - the assessor will ask you to sign a form or verbally agree to this.

The assessor will send their recording to you after your assessment.

If the assessor refuses to record it or tells you not to record it, you can complain to your assessment provider.

is this procedure according to the law

Is there any other ways to protect your assessment from getting twisted?

    🙏

@user31, thanks for sharing your report. Have you looked through all the PIP descriptors? It's good to be familiar with them so you can answer them as best you can. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/sick-or-disabled-people-and-carers/pip/help-with-your-claim/fill-in-form-pip/ .

That report feels very familiar to me and I understand how awful it feels when they say that you are capable of doing things when you're not.

    @user31

Hi, you’re definitely not alone in this – a lot of people find their PIP assessment report doesn’t reflect what they’ve actually said, so please don’t feel like it’s just you.

The most important thing is not to panic. Easier said than done I suppose.

Anyway the next step is to wait for your decision letter. Once you have that, you can request a Mandatory Reconsideration (MR), which is the first stage of challenging the decision.

If the MR doesn’t change the decision, you can then appeal to a tribunal – and a lot of people are successful at that stage.

It might also help to contact organisations like Citizens Advice as they can support you through the process.

I know it’s really stressful, especially when you’ve got a lot going on already, but you do have options and many people do get the decision changed. Take it one step at a time – you’re doing the right thing by asking for advice. Good luck and keep us updated.
