Hi, guys. Can anybody help? …

I just tried to donate a wheelchair to a care home but was told they cannot accept it because the footrests are missing (inexpicably removed by someone). It was bought for my wife's mother about 10 years ago but was never used, although it may have been second-hand when purchased. Other than the lack of footrests, it looks and operates as good as new.

According to the label it is a Drive Medical HX5 9JP, Product Code BLT18FBD-SFRD.  I have contacted Drive Medical and they told me they no longer provide spares for this particular wheelchair and I cannot use any others of theirs because all their footrests are designed exclusively for a specific wheelchair type.

Does anybody know if there is any type of footrest out there (manufactured by anybody) that I can fit to our wheelchair to make it useful again. Alternatively, does anyone know of an organisation that I can send it that can adapt it and put it to beneficial use?

Many thanks for any help that can be offered, it will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Kieran S

I don't know where you guys live. @KTH was looking for a wheelchair, I think? Footrest sounds like something that can be fixed with a bit of DIY. Hope you find the wheelchair a good home @KieranS

Hi @KieranS and welcome to the community. That's such a shame that they don't do spare parts for it anymore. We have some information about different places you could donate it to or recycle it. There are also options to give it away through websites like Freecycle https://www.scope.org.uk/advice-and-support/second-hand-disability-equipment . Hopefully you'll be able to find a good home for it.
