Unable to open eyes

Hi everyone 
this is my first time on the site!
we were wondering if anyone had experienced their child waking up but not been able to open their eyes, this can last for 3/4 days sometimes. The doctors don’t seem to know or bother too much. It is very distressing for both her and us.when this happens she seems unable to lay back and is very sleepy. She has CP in all 4 limbs and is unable to talk so we don’t know exactly how she feels when this happens. I would be grateful for any help in this matter.

    Welcome to the community.

    This isn't something that I have seen first hand, although I can think of many potential explanations I don't think it would be helpful to speculate on the cause. I think it is disappointing that the doctor's involved with your daughter's healthcare don't appear to be concerned with trying to find out what is going on. Are you able to take some video to show them so that they fully comprehend what you are witnessing? If they can't advise can they refer to someone that can?

    My concern would be that if this is happening often your daughter is potentially missing out on a fair amount of time when she should ideally be wide awake and engaging with the world so that she is learning and developing to the best of her ability.

    Hi maz and welcome

    This may not be relevant to your situation but I remember when I was much younger sometimes I would wake up but could not open my eyes, This could last for hours. My parents were told to bathe my eyes with warm water, which did "unstick " them. It was very scary at the time

    Thanks for your post. This must very be worrying for you all. Has the G.P. ruled out conjunctivitis?  This is an infection that causes the eyes lids to stick. It is very common in children.

    Yeah they don’t seem to have any idea. It’s not like an eye infection and we think she is unwell at the time it happens. Thank you

    In that case, I would agree with @Jean_Scope. Try to get a video of what is actually happening at the time. I would also request to be referred to somebody that may know more.

    Thanks to you all the doctors have seen they’ve put her on antihistamines incase it was an allergy but it’s not helped. She also has epilepsy.
