Have you had a work capability assessment yet? There's no time scales to decisions but usually it doesn't take that long for a decision after you've had the assessment.

PIP and ESA are completely different benefits. You will need an assessment for ESA, just like for PIP. Some have paper based assessments, most have face 2 face assessments. There's no times scales to how long it will take for an assessment as there's backlogs in most areas. It could be several months or more before you have yours. Evidence will be needed to support your claim, regardless of your PIP claim.
