Successful PIP Appeal

hi there, my son has autism and he had to change from DLA to PIP because of his age and had to apply, was turned down in August last year. Today we won his appeal. My question is will I receive back money from tax credits automatically as they stopped the disability element last year. Or will I have to contact them, thanks in advance

    Congratulations on the appeal success.
    Im not sure about your tax credits but hopefully someone else can help.

    Hi ECmum

    I suggest you phone the tax credit office (which I know isn't easy) and tell them that you won the appeal. 

    You need definitely to tell them when you get your award notice, and the arrears. 

    To be accurate, the benefit (in this case PIP) isn't awarded until you get the formal confirmation that the DWP isn't going to try to appeal the tribunal panel's decision. This is the award letter, so you don't have to tell the tax office until you get that letter indicating how much the arrears are (the dates will be on there too). If no such letter is sent to you, then wait for the arrears to be in your bank account and then phone the tax office, offering the  details of the arrears and the tribunal panel's written decision. 

    I wouldn't rely on any automatic system for one department informing another  within government. That doesn't usually work where arrears are concerned.
