do you have to claim carers allowance to be classed as a carer with job centre when on universal credit. I have applied but my dad has been told he will loose all his benefits if i claimed. he gets pension credit housing benefit council tax support and standard rate PIP care and lower rate mobility. Plus part of the severe disabled premium. He went to the council today and they told him he would loose all of his benefits. I have said that im a carer with universal credit will they espect me to look for a job if I don't claim carers allowance.

I don't get why he'd lose anything (apart from the carer allowance part of their benefits) but after googling it does affect some benefits: https://www.carersuk.org/news-and-campaigns/features/ask-the-expert-will-claiming-carer-s-allowance-affect-other-benefitsIf you become a carer then you might be able to claim income support with that and are not eligible to look for work.
The system is pretty good at shafting people it seems.
