Disability Cards

Hi there
I recently took my son to Jump Inc in Sheffield and was told that I couldn't go free as a carer unless I had a Carer's Card. I had never heard of this card (my son is almost 14).
I kicked up a fuss as my son has an obvious disability as he has Downs Syndrome, so they let me in for free eventually.
I feel this was an unnecessarily upsetting experience and I emailed the head office but received no reply. Like many of you I don't have the time to constantly be sending letters of complaint but just wondered if anyone has heard of the carers card they were asking about? I just carry an up to date DLA letter around with me now. We have bought my son an annual pass now so they know him really well and never question the carer thing.
What do you do? I hate the idea of paying for a disability card. Getting a tatoo might be a cheaper option lol.
Just interested to hear your opinions/strategies.
Thanks.
Katy

How rude of them.
Im sure they could see your sons disabled so it seems that hate crime was their motive.
Not heard of the card think they made it up.
Tattoo mmmmm maybe across tjeir heads
Best wishes0 -
Just very young and badly trained. Think I need to raise awareness but if head office don't answer their emails?
Like the idea of them getting a tattoo!

Hi @Katymary321
Had a good look round on Carer's UK forum.
There is no Carer's card on a national basis. A number of local authorities run local schemes.
Might be worth checking your local council.
Would be happy to help with tattoos at Jump Inc, but my hands shake a lot, could be messy!!0 -
They deserve messy for making mom and child feel bad0

just googled and found this it might help find the card you need https://carers.org/article/days-out
