Constantly having to adapt

I'm finding it exhausting having a progressive condition - I'm always trying to catch up and think up a new way to deal with my latest problem. I started regularly using a powered wheelchair a few years ago so had to get the right car to transport it and I'm now thinking about getting a hoist...
I know how hard it is for someone who becomes disabled to adapt to a new way of life but having to do it constantly really sucks! So I salute anyone with a progressive condition who is making life work for them!

    I am having a power chair soon (waiting for it to come) also changing my car so I can have a hoist to move it. My new car will be a Peugeot rifter, coming on Thursday ?

    That's great - I've got a Peugeot Partner. She must never be called a van as we both get very offended :wink:

    I don’t have a physical disability but I understand where you are coming from because of my experiences with mental health issues. It seems that once you get into a way of life that is - comfortable would be pushing it, but tolerable - something happens, either internally or externally, that means you have to readjust.

    Hello @Lydia92.

    Life with a disability is all about flexibility and adapting. Since my son was born, I have literally honed my out of the box thinking skills. For example, this week at a theater with the family, I brought his wheelchair but due to the narrowness of the seats had him sitting next to me in his own paid for seat. It did not matter. My son’s condition is non progressive however.

    Hi @Lydia92......I have the Citroen version of your car {1.6 litre diesel automatic, 50mpg} and it is fitted with a hoist which allows me to carry my 108cm mobility scooter sideways so I still have the use of all 5 seats.  It really is a lifesaver and lets me get out in the open air and parklands as long as the temperature allows it.  I don't really like indoor shopping malls but at least they're generally warm. 

       Hey ho...the years just seem to fly by nowadays so it won't be long till summer comes round again {I think}.

    Hi, yeh I`m with you on the need to keep changing things to suit the progressive nature of my disability too.

    Within 20 years I have gone from an independent, active woman, to one who needs full  with personal care and taking out. It`s so frustrating.

    It`s taken a whole chuck of money too.......I reckon we would have been debt and mortgage free, with a tidy nest egg in the bank.

    Que sera sera, innit!

    Got my new Peugeot with the hoist fitted, beautiful to drive. Now I'm just waiting for my power chair ?

    When I first lost my mobility I got a 4 wheel scooter. It was great. I was able to go out alone then,
    I have been a full time electric wheelchair user for several years and need a carer to take me out. But my chair is vital to me.

    When I was given a powerchair by Wheelchair Services, they took me on a lesson and then a test and I passed!
