SDP while living with a non-relative

I've just joined this site and am looking for advice. I am abouts to enter a joint tenancy with a non-relative, who is not a partner. Will I lose my SDP ( severe disability premium) as I will no longer be living alone. This person is in no way a carer nor are her finances anything to do with me.

    HI and welcome,

    It will depend on the tenancy agreement. If they have separate tenancy agreements (i.e. paying for a room in a shared house ) you will be treated as living alone. If you are joint tenants each is jointly and severally liable for the whole rent then there's no guarantee that you will be able to keep the SDP simply because you will be "joint tenants"
