Hospital transport.

The rules for hospital transport have changed. Yes I am able to drive.
My argument is how do I get to the department.
My husband also my carer due to co vid guide lines is not allowed to escort me in my manual wheelchair..
A taxi same dilemma.
So frustrating. .
These bureaucratic decesion makers don't have a clue how difficult it is.

    Hi @jade54! Just to clarify, is the issue over getting from the vehicle into the hospital?

    In Birmingham Age Concern are pioneering Hospital Transport scheme for people of any age who find it difficult to get to hospital appointments, that is funded by Birmingham City Council.  Possibly this could be replicated elsewhere. Age Concern's number is T: 0121 437 0033 or

    Hi @jade54 - unless I'm reading it wrongly, it does seem to be that you can get to the hospital, but then you have difficulty in getting to the appropriate department. Perhaps a porter can push your wheelchair if you are unable to propel this, & if the hospital has some advance notice. I'm sure you would prefer your husband to do this, & be with you at your appointment, but, as you mention, due to Covid-19, your husband isn't allowed to accompany you. Yes, it's difficult, but the guidelines are there to keep everyone as safe as possible at the moment.
    Perhaps also you are unable to get hospital transport as you are at least able to get to the hospital; the difficulty seems to arise after this, but hopefully there will be a way to overcome this.

    Hi

    At any hospital appointment I have been to there is someone to greet you at the entrance and they will provide assistance or a porter. 


    I am in a wheelchair and even if you get transport which I do once they have delivered you to the door they also are not allowed in the hospital and also once your appointment is finished it is hospital staff that take you back to await ambulance pick up and they wheel me outside when it arrives 

    You could go with your husband nd he could take you to the entrance and when you are done pick you back up from there
