Housing benefit problem with calculators?

hello, ive ran into a strange problem with the turn2us calculator and hoping someone can shed a little light on it for me please?

If i put my rent as private it doesn't give me any form of extra universal credit, but if i put it as social housing it adds basically the full rent onto it!

Is this a known problem? im confused if im actually entitled to any extra housing benefit help or not, or is it only for social housing?

Any help appreciated!

    Hi

It is probably because the allowance for private rent is set by your local authority

You can check this out on the internet not sure on which site but search local housing authority rates and look for which rate you fall under eg 1 bedroom rate etc

This amount is the housing element you will be paid regardless of the amount of rent you pay

For social housing the full rental cost is paid as housing element

HI @cammz - you'll find the relevant info in the following link, which includes a link for your 'Local Housing Allowance rate' if you scroll down to the 'Private Rent' section. Please see: https://www.gov.uk/housing-benefit/what-youll-get   Hope this helps. :)
