To have covid vaccine or not

Hi everyone I've had a text today from Drs telling me to get in touch to make appointment for covid vaccine. Trouble is I'm unsure what to do. I suffer with my lungs so this covid if I get it won't be good, but I'm worried the vaccine might be harmful. So many different stories out there.

    @Sandy_123 the best thing to do if you have any concerns is to speak to your doctor

    @janer1967 I've only found one post on it on here, I did look. It's just something I've been fretting about all day, I'll remove the post.

    I don’t think you need to remove the post @Sandy_123 its fine, we often have repeated ideas on the forum.

    i agree with @lisathomas50 you should just phone your local clinic and ask to have a chat with your doctor about your concerns. ?

    You can always use the Search button up the top of the page to look for anything.

    leave the post as it is. Others may want to put their opinions on it. Personally I'd do whats suggested above and speak to your GP.

    I hope you find the info you need, its a scary time, sometimes hard to sort through whats real and what is made up, i'm having the jab, good luck

    Hi @Sandy_123 - I'm sorry you feel concerned about the vaccine. As you say, there are so many stories about it (many on social media), but, as advised, discuss it with your GP. The stories are just that....stories. I think we need to trust our scientists; they are the way forward, & the vaccine will help protect you. The vaccine is in no way harmful.
    Useful tho it may (possibly) be to see posts on the discussions about vaccines on here, your GP is in a way better position to advise, & alleviate your concerns. They will know you, & your medical history, which none of us can know. I'm sure your GP will help. My best wishes. :)

    Hi @Sandy_123 I felt the exact same when I first was told I could have an appointment to have the vaccine. I requested my specialist's opinion on whether to have the vaccine or not. Thankfully he got back to us within a few days. He was happy for me to have the vaccine.

    I received an appointment for 2 days later. It all happened so quickly and I was very impressed with how the surgery carried out all the vaccinations they were doing that day.

    Echoing what everyone has advised, speak to your GP or consultant/specialist :)

    The only real issue I have heard about seems to be around allergies. A friend recently had their vaccine, has severe health issues and allergies. As mentioned above your doctor will be the best person to advise you as they know your medical history. My friend did have a reaction, but as this was a possibility the surgery was prepared and the medication needed was available at the surgery and they were treated there. The appointment lasted longer than usual as they would not let them leave until they were happy they would be okay. Plus they are now waiting for the second jab.

    While reaching the official 100,000 deaths from Covid has rightly, in my opinion, received a lot of attention it should not be forgotten that surviving Covid is potentially not without long term risks and affects on health. While this has had the occasional mention I have not heard what the figures are for those with long term issues.

    Like many others, as soon as I can I will be getting the vaccine.

    I'd just like to echo what the others have said, and suggest that you speak to your doctor. They will be best placed to advise you on whether or not the vaccine is safe for you. Do you feel comfortable doing that?
