in Start here and say hello!
Hi. My name is Kevin. I had a stroke 12 years ago just after my 60th birthday, which left me with mobility & balance problems. I can walk very short distances with sticks but to go greater distances, I have to be pushed in a wheelchair. (I do not have the strength or coordination to use a self-propelled wheelchair.) My big desire is to go abroad again. For personal reasons, I have a particular desire to visit Russia, for example, but I know it is one of those countries that I would like to visit where I would face difficulties getting around. I am wondering if there are any organisations or travel firms who could help me. I would welcome any suggestions or advice.

    Hi there 

    There are companies dedicated to disabled travel I cant remember any names but if you do a Google search 

    Other members will have some links 

    You can usually hire power chairs abroad 

    Have you considered a power chair for yourself are all.  I use manual chair in house but power chair outside as well as mobility scooter makes going out a lot easier and not reliant on being pushed

    Hi @keva and welcome to our community.  Russia is on my list of places to visit too.

    This Scope webpage on 'Getting travel advice from other disabled people' has a list of accessible travel companies including:
    Limitless Travel is a specialist holiday provider for people with a wide range of mobility restrictions and conditions.
    Enable Holidays is an agency that specialises in accessible travel for wheelchair users.
    Travel Eyes is a tour operator providing independent group travel for people who are blind or partially sighted.
    Disabled Holidays is a specialist provider that organises a range of accessible holidays including cruises, adventure holidays, and family breaks.
    So these would be some providers to approach about making the holiday happen.  I hope you get to Russia as soon as restrictions/travel permits and remember to send us a postcard :)
