Hi, 
New here- Im dealing with progressive myopia. Its gotten to the point where I had to leave my job.?
Anyone else here experiencing this?

    Hi @Lindy71 welcome to the forum, sorry to read about your condition and having to give up work, I don't suffer with your condition but someone might pop on who does.
    I had to give up work for different reasons so can sympathise there. Did you go through oc health with work before you left?  
    I hope you are getting support from drs and eye specialists with your condition on ways best to manage or cope.

    Hello @Lindy71

    Welcome to the community :) 

    Are you receiving any support from an eye specialist for your progressive myopia? And have you been in contact with places like the RNIB or Thomas Pocklington Trust to see if there's any way in which they can support you? 

    If you are looking to get back into work, you might find Scope's Support to Work scheme helpful, and I would advise reading up on reasonable adjustments to find out how an employer would be able to support you in work.

    Thanks for the support. I am seeing an eye specialist.
    It was suggested I start cane training . I really am not ready for this- I can still see pretty well and hopefully won’t get to that point. I’m too young to retire ? so am looking for another job - not the best time for that though!

    Good to know that you are seeing an eye specialist, hopefully they will be able to make some  recommendations for you.

    Totally agree with @Username_removed about the topic of canes. Of course it's absolutely your call whether you feel ready or not, and I understand why you would feel hesitant, but I can't recommend canes enough. 

    And one thing I didn't realise before starting cane training is the various kinds of cane that there are, such as long canes or symbol canes (as referenced by Bike). I have one of each, and it's great to be able to pick which one I use depending on where I'm going, who I'm going with and the weather conditions. 

    Even having a symbol cane, which is intended to make people around you aware that you have sight loss, results in much less misunderstanding with the public, and ultimately leads to greater confidence outdoors. 

    Might be something to speak with your eye specialist about, did they go into much detail other than suggesting cane training? They would likely be able to discuss the subject in further detail with you.
