Hi all... looking for urgent advice please.
I claim uc with severe disability premium. And high rate pip.
My daughter is my carer.
She has been advised that she needs to claim the carers element of uc....however.... what impact will this have on my uc claim.. housing and council tax benefit..really worried they will reduce my payment which is ridiculous!!! Does anyone know how much I will loose.
Many thanks

Hi there and welcome
If your daughter claims the carers element you will lose your severe disability payment
Sdp is paid if you live alone and don't have anyone claiming carers for you
As far as I am aware though I'm not an expert the other benefits won't be affected
Others will come and give advice

Hi.. thank you for the reply.. how much is the severe disability allowance? I'm panicking I won't be able to afford to live...
Thank you0 -
I'm not sure as sdp isn't payable in uc unless it is a transitional payment
Eg you got it on old benefits before you moved over to universal credit
If you check your statements in your online account if should give you a breakdown of each payment

Hi @randomfemale - & welcome to the community. As Jane says, presumably you were receiving income related ESA prior to moving over to UC, is that correct (& your SDP was protected when you moved over)? SDP is currently £67.30 a week, but this may likely reduce over time, as say your housing benefit increases, this will reduce your SDP by a similar amount.1
