What type of fan you have AND any good?

I've a static Turbo 12" 3 speed with tilt, which works great (though when extra hot or humid it doesn't make much difference, like spinning in treacle)

Thinking of 18-20 inch floor fan but not sure if worth it other than scatter hot air around. (selling like hot cakes I bet!!)

(have portable AC but another story LOL)

    I have both desk fan and pedestal 

    I used to have one of those cylinder type which was good 

    Try putting bowl of ice cold water under fan supposed to work but I've not tried it

    Tried ice with fan and had air cooler (with ice packs) in past,  but made no difference. (prob as humid)

    Need breeze to shift heat.  (but probably building retains heat when warmed-up)

    I have an industrial sized air conditioner on wheels but I’m not allowed to plug it in, too expensive to run!

    last summer it was so hot I froze a water bottle and placed both my feet on it, worked well, very cooling.

    Hi I have a woozoo by ohyama. I got it from Amazon and it is quiet and powerful, work remote or manual and has a timer it also rotates. I would recommend. It was about £70 but worth every penny.

    I’ve ordered an 18” £35 industrial floor one.

    Hopefully I’ll be blown away by the performance. 

    Not sure what puss will make of it LOL

    Portable AC unit is the only way to actually cool a room.  But they need a huge exhaust pipe to outside which limits their placement...I recently bought one that I then realised I can't use in my current flat.  :s

    Have a couple of fans but they just blow hot air around.  I hate noise and being blown directly in the face so don't really use them.  Opening the window is still the most effective thing here, but then the room fills with bugs and pollen instead.  I can't wait for Autumn!  :p

    Have you considered buying a net for your window @OverlyAnxious? My dad bought some sheets of netting and tapes them to the windows each year so he can have the windows open without bugs flying in. I'm not sure how effective it'd be in stopping pollen though- this is also something I experience.

    Yeah, I've tried that before.  I even built a bespoke frame covered in net to fit tightly around the window but still be easily removable to open and close the window as necessary.  Trouble is, the netting that was tight enough to stop all the bugs was also so tight it stopped much air flowing through so I gave up in the end.  It didn't make any difference to the pollen, I find pollen is so small it can always find a way in.
