Well today brian has been told he only has 20% vision new he had problems with his sight but never thought it was that bad so he is now going to get a certificate to say  he is partially sighted it was strange looking at his eyes on the computer his right eye is totally black and his left eye is black and white all around his eye

    I can totally empathise I am partially sighted 

    Blind in one eye and severe impairment in other 

    I have certificate too

    Has he been referred to your local authority sensory team 

    If not would recommend they have changed my life with support and gadgets 

    Rnib is also a good source

    Well today brian went to the eye hospital had test and now turns out he only has 20% vision so withh have a certificate to register as partly sighted we are in the process of filling out the UC50 form it has to be back to them by 2/8/21 should I wait until I get the certificate from the hospital to send it with the form or send the form back now and then send the certificate (copy) when it arrives.
    I think I have all the medical evidence they need anyway a good report on all of his illnesses now and present plus a good report from the stroke outreach team that come 2/3  times a week at home.

    Thanks janer1967 just trying to process it present we did have the warwickshire vision support group contact us about 5 weeks ago but we never had the proper diagnosis then so rang them up soon as we got home so waiting for them to get back to us. How long does it take for the certificate to come. I am also blind in 1 eye but as I lost the eye while very young 7 I don't no any difference really but I had a good right eye lol is having only 20% vision very bad and is that  classed as severely sighted?

    Sorry to hear about Brian's sight loss, how is he coping with the news? Has he been signposted to organisations / services that will be able to support him?

    Regarding the certificate, I wouldn't say it's a necessity that it needs to be sent, so you might want to just send the copy whenever it arrives, rather than delaying sending back the UC50. Just ensure that you have detailed his sight loss in the UC50 and how it impacts him.

    I got a copy from my consultant a few weeks after the appointment 

    However still in the process of being registered as my consultant never sent copies to council 

    It was all through pandemic I eventually referred myself to the sensory team and they have sent everything off to be registered buf its taking forever 

    I don't know what degree of vision they class as severely vision impairment 

    I can only read top 2 lines of vision chart

    Hi Ross brian has taken it quite well but brian finds it hard to talk about how he feels he thinks he just has to get on with it waiting for warwickshire vision support group

    That's understandable @karen1812, it can be hard to come to terms with a new diagnosis. The RNIB offer a number of services that would be able to help him should he ever want support, such as a free helpline and free living with sight loss courses.
