Hi to everyone just come across this site and was wondering if I could get some help
I have been renting a room in the same house as my landlord for the last 4 years
I'm on ESA income support and enhanced living and mobility should I be entitled to severe disability award

Hi there
You need to live alone or with someone who also gets disabled benefits to be entitled to sdp
I'm not sure if living with your landlord would count as living alone though

I assume you mean income based ESA. You should be entitled to the SDP. Your landlord is not classified as a non-dependant because you are liable to pay rent to them. You are therefore classified as living alone. Ring ESA and explain your circumstances.
(I think there is logic to this. When someone lives with other adult family members it is assumed that they can provide support to the claimant without extra cost to the claimant - clearly it would not be reasonable to expect a landlord to do that.)0 -
