ESA & UC Eligibility

I have a friend who has a severe mental disability and apparently doesn't qualify for ESA due to lack of National Insurance Contributions and is now married. Are they entitled to ESA or Universal Credit in any way?

I'd really appreciate anyone's feedback on this matter.

Cheers, Drifter

Hi and welcome to the community

They are possibly entitled to uc depending on their circumstances and without knowing all of them we can't really say

I suggest completing a benefits calculator found on gov website to see what they could be entitled to

As janer says they need to look at Universal Credit based on household circumstances. Should also look at PIP.
    PIP points system (benefitsandwork.co.uk)

Benefits calculators are here Benefits calculators - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
They can be confusing to use and the output is only as good as the input.
