Favourite Tipple to relax with.

For me there is nothing better to sit back and relax with than a Jim Beam with coke over ice. I especially like this while sitting in the garden, when able. (If the weather is good that is.)
I find Bourbon a better tasting whisky than scotch. Although I have had some great scotch, but not with coke.

I used to be a vodka lover in my teens and early 20s. I’ve not drank alcohol much since about 2017. If I do, it’s usually a raspberry kopperburg.

I really like a cognac - normally in the evening just before I go to bed.

@Dragonslayer have you tried an Old Fashioned? It's a cocktail made with bourbon. The recipe varies slightly depending on which one you read however mine is 2 ounces of bourbon, 3/4 ounces of sugar syrup and 4 splashes of Angostura bitters.

Edit: to avoid confusion, by "3/4" I meant "three quarters of an ounce" of sugar syrup, not "three or four ounces"!!

Thanks for that. I have heard of an old fashioned and I will try it the way you describe.

I very rarely drink alcohol, don’t like the taste of much. But when I do drink I only enjoy it with a meal, mostly a beer with lemonade or glass of wine.
I do like the odd cocktail, but again only with food…

    Hi @Lee39.
I prefer Borbon, but I have tried Jack but I find it rather bitter. Just to let you know, if you do not already, Jack Daniels is not Bourbon. Many over here think it is, but Bourbon can only be named as such if distilled and labeled in Kentucky. Jack is whisky from Tennessee. The word Bourbon originated from bourbon county. Others say it came from Bourbon St. in New Orleans.
    Enjoy your Jack. ?

I was introduced to Pernod & Black as a student; I love the aniseed taste too. I was almost afraid of mentioning Pernod, as most people seem to think it's awful. I now drink Pernod just with water.

    @leeCal. @66Mustang.
I like the way both of you love your drinks.
Good single malts to try If you come across them, both from the Scottish isles. Jura and Talisker. I tasted these among many others on my trip around the whisky Experience outside Edinburgh castle. Not everywhere sells them, but the big supermarkets do.
    Another, although expensive is Glenmorangie.
    Cheers. Good health. Enjoy. ?
I will have to try some Cognacs. I have had very little.

@chiarieds yes, some pubs wouldn't even stock it, ive had pub landlords wrinkle their noses up too at pouring it. I just love aniseed and yes I was buying half penny aniseed balls as a kid too lol

Oh dear, I have rather bad memories of Pernod and black!
As I recall someone was slightly 'tipsy' (and up all night) after drinking several pints of cider and a few shots of pernod and black.
He was so unwell because he ate 3 bags of sausage and tomato crisps and two pickled eggs..(nothing to do with the alcohol of course!)
But that was back in 1989, so all is forgiven! ?

    Make mine a bloody mary
or a bottle of blonde Leffe

Thanks for the kind words :)

When trying cognacs you will come across some big brand names: Hennessy, Rémy Martin, Martell and Courvoisier. These are all fine, actually really nice, but you are paying for the brand with them. In my experience you are able to get great value for money and find some really nice cognacs by looking at the lesser known brands.
