Will I be refused a property because of benefits?

Hi. Hope you’re all well. I’ll be looking for my first property to rent later this year, probably through an estate agent as I would like to choose a small house in an area I like myself. I’m hopeful about it all working out okay but i just read today that a lot of landlords ask for payslips and I am currently not working an on ESA/PIP due to health reasons. Is it likely that I will be refused a properly to rent due to my benefits and not working? Thanks

    Hi and welcome to the community 

    It is hard to get a private rent house when your only income is  benefit 

    Not impossible but you would in most cases need a guarantor and pay 6 month rent in advance 

    Some landlords do accept benefit tenants but you will have a search on your hands

    Hi @mattluke :) It looks like @chiarieds sent you a link to this page from Shelter on finding landlords who accept benefits on your previous post, which has lots of useful information on it. Have you had a think about affordability checks, being able to pay multiple month's worth of rent up front, and so on? Have you had a look to see what the cost of rent will be for the kind of property you're looking at in the area you want to live in? It's not impossible by any means to rent a place on benefits, but it's good to be prepared as you may find you get rejected by some private landlords unfortunately.

    It is hard to get a private rent house, but some landlords do accept the benefit tenants.

    `I don't know what that link has to do with privately renting a home because that's for people buying a property or for those that own their own home. This isn't the first time you've added this same link to a thread but it's irrelevant so makes no sense.
