You will need to look at the eligibility criteria above I linked to.

If you are unsure, you may need to contact some solicitors in your area and ask.

Most solicitors will offer a free consultation, for 30minutes or so to discuss options.

If not, you could try a law centre or clinic if you have one in your area.

    Maybe also citizens advice?

If none of that applies and cant be accommodated, I'm afraid you may have to pay

I rang legal aid today, and immediate threat of homelessness is one of their criteria, if you qualify on the financial means test its probably easier to speak to them than shelter at the moment.

    In relation to what though?

As advised above, if you don’t meet legal aid eligibility, then have you tried law clinics and centres or CAB, otherwise you may need to pay.

    Hello @Dan62

Hope you have found a lawyer now. If not , you could try the Resolution first for family law website as that website lists all specialist family law solicitors in your area.

It sounds as if you need a family solicitor with expertise in unmarried relationships as from what you have said you were in an unmarried relationship but jointly own a property with your former partner.

If that is the case your ex partner would need to bring court proceedings to get an order for sale . You could try to avoid that by paying him or her their share of the equity in the house ( if any) and just as importantly getting their name off the mortgage as I am guessing that until that is done your ex partner can't buy a new house because he or she has a joint mortgage with you.

These claims are called TOLATA claims and are tricky to sort and so you really do need to speak to a family law expert rather than a housing or other type of solicitor.

    Hope this helps
