Spinal Stenosis

Hi All, I've been looking all over the web for some information about spinal stenosis and am surprised at the lack of specific information, except what the condition is.
I have only just been diagnosed with severe spinal stenosis of the L4/L5 and moderate stenosis of the disc in the L5/S1 nerve root. I am taking a cocktail of pain meds, including Tramadol and Gabapentin. Without the Gabapentin I would literally be doubled over in excruciating agony, which has bought me close to tears at times and I have had days where there is no pain relief at all.
Everyone I have spoken to, including the 3 doctors I have seen, have said I will need surgery. I have an appointment soon with the surgeon.
However, information on what to expect with regards to recovery, is a little light on the ground. So if anyone has any advice, or has had this surgery and can tell me what to expect, I would very much appreciate it. I know everyone recovers differently, but a rough clue would go a long way to ease my mind.
Thank you for taking your time to read this.

Hi TomStarbuck Hurray I have found some one the same as me and i have only just started with this group.
I to have just been diagnosed with sever spinal sponisis . I've had a few problems in the past with my back and i was told few years back that i will suffer with compresion of the sciatic nerves due to my discs - couple of years ago i started with the severe pain of stenonsis and have not long been seen by the consultant (due to covid) and what a shock i've had - nothing to do with my discs, a bone has actually moved on top of another one which has caused my compression - i have been told its to far gone for any other treatment then surgary big shock and i'm scared. The bone is going to be removed and the spine stabalised with pins etc (fusian) The consultant has advised i have it done now as i'm 64 and it could cause more problems if i leave it till later on in my life - i just so wanted to talk to someone who has experienced this opp.x0
