Special Needs Woodwork Course / College

My daughter is currently in year 12 and we are looking to the future. She would like to pursue a career in woodwork as she really enjoys the subject. I am trying to find a college that offers woodwork to special needs teenage (the school is looking also), Google isn't being very helpful and our local college here in Hillingdon doesn't offer anything. Does anyone know of such a college? We are willing to move if we have to but if we could find somewhere in London, it would be a bonus. Thanks for reading.

Hello @BroadJ
Welcome to the community, it's nice to see you join us
I hope the start to your year has been pleasant, and that you and your family are well.
It's good that your daughter has a passion for woodwork, and knows what she wants to do as a career. Have you been able to find any colleges in your local area that would offer a course? If so, you could approach them and discuss your daughter's requirements and whether they would be able to support.
Additionally, it might be worth contacting your local council to see if they have any suggestions, and IPSEA could also be a good shout.
I have moved your discussion over to our Education category, which you also might like to browse for related discussions. I also wonder if @L_Volunteer would have anything to suggest here.

Hi @BroadJ
Welcome to Scope's forum. It is great to see you have joined us. If I have interpreted your situation appropriately, it would seem your daughter is due to progress to college. Your daughter is really interested in studying woodwork but there currently seems to be a lack of local colleges with woodwork courses.
I would be intrigued to know whether your daughter requires special needs provision or whether mainstream provision with special needs support would be equally suitable? If so, there would be many more settings you could choose from. Does your daughter currently have an education, health and care plan (EHCP)? If so, the support she currently receives would legally have to be provided in college too. If not, it will, unfortunately, be dependent on morals but could be negotiated under reasonable adjustments.
If support is not an issue, I have just had a quick browse on Google and found quite a few woodwork courses in adult education centres in London. You can find one example at https://www.londonwoodworkclasses.co.uk/. Though, these do seem to be in smaller groups. You may also benefit from the National Careers Service search (https://nationalcareers.service.gov.uk/pages/find-a-course). I can already see some woodwork courses on there listed for London, but you might be able to narrow this down further by your postcode.
I hope this helps but if you have any further questions, need anything to be clarified, or need our further support, we are here for you and we are listening to you0 -
And thanks @Ross_Scope for bringing this to my attention! I have added a few things. I hope this helps @BroadJ. Please let us know how you get on0

Hi, thank you both for your comments. My daughter has mild learning difficulties and is Dyspraxic, she does have an EHCP and will need additional support in a college setting, this is why it is proving difficult to find the correct placing for her. There is not a college that offers a woodwork course within L B Hillingdon and this is why I am reaching out to see if anyone knows of anywhere. I have found one college but it is in East London. I was hoping for a setting nearer if possible.0

Sorry, I need to add, she currently attends a special needs school. Unfortunately, she didn't cope in mainstream and was unable to keep up.0

Hi @BroadJ
Thanks for your response. Ah, I can completely hear the additional parameters around your situation now, thanks for clarifying. Unfortunately, we aren't able to create courses (otherwise I would for you!). The only other things apart from travelling I would recommend are adult learning centres and remote learning. Though, I recognise neither of these precisely match what you are looking for. I hope you manage to find something though!0
