Tell me about a time that you experienced disabled joy

Hi all,
I thought it would be nice to create a thread that celebrates disabled joy, which is often forgotten elsewhere. This might seem like a small example, but I have recently found a pair of Dr Martens in my size that genuinely have more of an adult vibe and it's made me really happy. My feet are pretty small (affectionately referred to as "alien feet") and finding shoes that don't feel infantilising is usually not easy, so now that's my birthday present sorted. Today, this has made my disabled self happy.

What about you?

    I found a group on Facebook a few years ago that does odd shoe sizes and single shoes so as an amputee that's great

    They get donated shoes from suppliers and other members and make them available to the group . They only charge for postage £4 for bag shoes there is no cost for the shoes

    I've had some amazing shoes and boots from them which I wouldn't normally have bought due to price and waste when you only wear one

    If I do buy a pair of shoes I donate the unwanted one to the group

    @janer1967,
    That's so cool! It's always so validating and nice to feel included in these things, I think. Definitely something that the fashion industry as a whole needs to look at more closely, but I'm so glad you've found a community that takes care of each other in the meantime :)

    I'm so happy for you, @Libby_Scope! That's one of the hardest things -- when you *know* that there's something going on with your body & have to wait for a diagnosis to match. But so deeply validating when that day finally comes! I hope that things will be a bit easier for you from now on <3
