With so much negative news right now, in particular the Russian invasion, not to forget COVID which has lost its place on the news, it is extremely easy to find yourself getting down & even depressed.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING to stay sane and stop yourself getting down???

I am absolutely sure that other members will benefit from your tips.

@woodbine I too have cried so much.  Strangely, my tears have come at moments when I watch humanity at its best, like families welcoming Ukrainians into their homes.

@Libby_Scope limiting exposure is a really important and great tip. I find this hard and feel I must watch the reality that is being broadcast, but today I have walked away from the coverage.   Tinted with a bit of guilt at doing so, I remind myself that watching things unfold is not achieving change.

I’ve been watching the news a lot after all this conflict is not that far away. I must admit it has had an effect on my mental health to some extent as its difficult not to become upset by the human cost. I too have used music to help but I have the crisis in the back of my mind constantly. Distraction is the key of course, I’ve also found meditation gives me a break.

I try not to watch to much news, i was the same with the pandemic.
I just so wish we had some good news,
A lot of negative things happening in our world at the moment, we need some good.
Whats going to happen next i wonder.

A few weeks ago, I started a video diary. It’s private and just for me, but it’s been extremely cathartic to say a lot of the stuff that’s been on my mind out loud. It feels lighter that way. It’s also been good to become friends with my own reflection, I guess. Some days, I have just ugly cried on camera, I’m not going to lie. But I have always, always felt better afterwards.

I think it’s just important to be gentle with yourself, especially right now. I also deleted news apps from my phone a long time ago. Personally, that has been a very healthy decision for me <3

Really insightful, thanks for sharing @Danielle_2022 :) I've tried to keep a written diary countless times in the past, but I've never been able to keep up with it. A video diary sounds good!

I think many of us can relate to those feelings @lisathomas50, especially when we have our own challenges to deal with. For me, I try and find a balance of looking after myself and my mental health, whilst also not ignoring distressing world events that require some attention and action.
