Yesterday, 18th March, was World Sleep Day World Sleep Day! I didn't know about it until recently, but thought it might be fun to share any tips you might have for sleeping well.

What is World Sleep Day:

World Sleep Day has been celebrated every year since 2008 before the Spring Equinox.

It was started by a group of medical professionals and its main aim is to raise awareness about the importance of good sleeping habits. These medical professionals have banded together to form The World Sleep Society- which is based in the US.

NHS Advice

The NHS Website has information on why you might be feeling tired, which also includes a helpful audio guide on how to manage common sleep problems.

Tips for sleeping well:

  • sleep at regular times
  • try not to drink too much coffee during the day
  • avoid alcohol before bed
  • avoid using smartphones, tablets or other electronic devices about an hour before bed
  • write a To-Do list to organise your thoughts for the next day

I know as a community there are a number of things that can impact our quality of sleep, and some are outside our control, but it can also be helpful to talk about these with each other, and to feel supported :)

I'd love to know if you have any tips to share, or if you have anything you really struggle with when it comes to getting a good night's sleep.

Thanks for the article @Alex_Scope. I don't have problems usually with sleep, my problems are waking  up lol. A nap turns into four hours. On the rare accasions it can be anxiety, that stops me sleeping  like if I'm home alone, the worry of if someone breaks in. Or waiting until my son comes home after a night out. The best way to overcome this I find, is to watch TV in bed or read.

Just something I thought I'd share, Scope's Sleep Right team released a series of podcasts aimed at disabled children and their families, which you can read about and access here :)
